About Zymbly
At Zymbly, we're revolutionizing how aircraft maintenance teams work. Our AI copilot transforms complex aviation knowledge into clear, auditable next actions—helping engineers move faster while maintaining the highest safety standards. We're backed by visionary leaders from Google, Airbus, and other pioneers in aviation and software, and we're working directly with airlines to deploy AI solutions that matter.
This is a unique moment in aviation. The industry is ready for AI, but it must be done right—with safety, auditability, and regulatory alignment at the core. We're building that future, and our growth trajectory reflects the massive opportunity ahead.
The role
As an AI Engineer at Zymbly, you'll be at the heart of building intelligent systems that aviation engineers rely on every day. You'll work on challenging problems at the intersection of large language models, knowledge retrieval, and safety-critical systems. Your work will directly impact how maintenance teams diagnose issues, interpret technical documentation, and make critical decisions.
This role requires both technical depth and a collaborative mindset. You'll partner closely with aviation experts, product leaders, and customers to ensure our AI systems are not just powerful, but trustworthy and practical in real-world operations.
What you'll do
- Design and implement LLM-based systems for aviation knowledge retrieval and decision support
- Build robust evaluation frameworks to ensure AI outputs meet aviation safety and accuracy standards
- Develop retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines that work with complex technical documentation
- Collaborate with domain experts to encode aviation regulatory requirements into AI guardrails
- Optimize model performance, latency, and reliability for production deployment
- Create tools and workflows that enable non-technical stakeholders to provide feedback and improve the system
- Stay current with advances in AI/ML research and identify opportunities to apply new techniques
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of experience building production AI/ML systems, with a focus on NLP or LLMs
- Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, Transformers, LangChain, etc.)
- Experience working with large language models—prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or building applications on top of foundation models
- Understanding of retrieval systems, vector databases, and semantic search
- Ability to balance innovation with pragmatism—you know when to use cutting-edge techniques and when to keep it simple
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with customers and domain experts
- Bonus: Experience in regulated industries (aviation, healthcare, finance) or safety-critical systems
- Bonus: Background in software engineering with a track record of shipping reliable, well-tested code
Why join Zymbly
- Work on AI that matters—your code will help keep aircraft safe and operational
- Join a growing team backed by top-tier investors and advisors from Google, Airbus, and leading aviation companies
- Tackle unique technical challenges at the intersection of AI and aviation
- Collaborate with world-class engineers, aviation experts, and airline partners
- Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits
- Remote-friendly culture with opportunities for in-person collaboration
- Be part of a mission-driven company where safety and reliability are not just buzzwords—they're foundational
